Building healthy rural communities and reducing the inequities in health status between rural and urban people is very challenging. One of the ZACH successful outcomes has been the ability to focus on sustainable growth to improve the health status of rural population by reaching out to rural remote and under served communities.
ZACH has been for years focusing on building healthy communities, enhancing community infrastructure; fostering greater collaboration and creating systemic and innovative approaches for health human resources. Key has been the constant engagement and involvement of various stakeholders at national and community level on policy issues and access to various services for the benefit of rural communities using creative solutions to generate resources working in partnership with other levels of government, the private and voluntary sectors and professional organizations.
Improving the health status of rural communities requires partner literacy to understand the community health challenges and priority needs as well as health facility challenges. Health financing in general, has been a major challenge for the country and worse still for rural mission hospitals and clinics as they are poorly resourced.
There is need for long term funding mechanism if sustainable growth is to be realized now and in the future, supported by clearly defined rural health policy.
ZACH is promoting comprehensive action to improve the health of rural remote and hard to reach communities. Though our advocacy strategies and in view of the health challenges faced by the poor, vulnerable and marginalized communities ZACH call for strong leadership role to ensure that rural health becomes a nationwide priority and that rural, remote communities have a healthy and sustainable future as we address the social development goals, 90 90 90, Universal Health coverage among other global and national health initiative to improve the lives of all Zimbabwean.
The ZACH Mission, vision and Goals speaks to this and our activities are designed to address rural health needs our strength being that of being part of the community, Christianity, commitment and integrity in line with our organizational values.
